   Raga online

"Indian music has developed through very complex interactions between different people of different races and cultures over several thousands of years. In a musical tradition in which improvisation predominates, and written notation, when used, is skeletal, the music of past generations is irrevocably lost." This is just a small sampler from a storehouse of information on Indian classical music which is now available on the Web, thanks to the recently – launched portal of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, www.itcsra.org. The site is sleek and appealing right from the word ‘go’. For instance, depending upon the time a visitor logs in, the opening page has a moving graphics telling the visitor that a particular raga is appropriate for that time of the day, and what is more you can even play that raga online!

ITC Limited established the prestigious ITC Sangeet Research Academy (ITC – SRA) in 1978 with the objective of preserving and promoting Hindustani Classical Music. ITC – SRA has played a major role to revive and nurture India’s rich heritage of Hindustani Classical Music. Some of the sections include : Archives, Concert hall, Gharana, Know Your Raga, and News & views among others. A great visit.
