MAKING
MUNGER A CLEANER TOWN
The ITC factory in Munger, promoter of Sunehra Kal in the
countryside, is also the force behind a vital infrastructure improvement project in Munger
town. Aiming to improve hygiene by cleaning the town's main drains, the project involved
all key stakeholders in the planning and execution of the activities. Their participation
ensured transparency and efficient execution of the project while building a greater sense
of community ownership.Beginning in April 2005,
more than 10 kilometres of main drains were de-clogged and thoroughly cleaned. This
three-way public-private partnerhip - involving local communities, the municipal
administration and ITC - has created a new capacity for civic cooperation in Munger.
MOTHER - CHILD HEALTH PROGRAMME
ITC has also actively supported a Mother-Child Health
programme for marginal families in Munger town, in collaboration with a local institution,
Sahara Parivar Kalyan Kendra (SPKK).
Over the last two years, pregnant women have been
provided with pre- and post-natal services while infants receive vital protection through
Immunisation and Pulse Polio programmes. Regular camps are held to build awareness and
promote better maternal and child health care practices. The programme also extends
homoeopathic treatment services to the community.
The communities that are served now have effective,
quality assured, low cost services in basic family health care - focused on providing
protection to expectant mothers. |
