ITC Sunehra Kal, in collaboration with BAIF, is making farming a more paying and sustainable occupation, enabling farmers to raise farm productivity and widen the income base.

IMPROVED FARM PRACTICES

The improved farm practices programme supported by ITC targets higher returns through better farm management, adoption of superior seed varieties in cereals, vegetables and spices, and a soil enrichment drive through use of vermicompost and NADEP technologies.

The development of water resources is a priority. ITC has helped a Water User Group construct a check dam for rainwater, which irrigates 100 hectares of cropland.

AGRIBUSINESS CENTRES

In order to overcome the chronic problem of poor quality agri-inputs, ITC has promoted Agribusiness Centres for sourcing seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and farm implements for hire. These Agribusiness Centres provide quality inputs at reasonable price covering large numbers of farmers.

A group of farmers has reached out beyond the local market to sell maize at a higher price.

The production of organic fertiliser through vermicomposting and NADEP, besides nurturing the soil also works out as an additional source of income; particularly valuable for women.
