ITC Wins India Today Safaigiri Award
ITC Limited has been conferred the coveted India Today Safaigiri Award 2016 in the category of “Corporate Trailblazer”. The Safaigiri Awards,instituted by India Today in 2015, recognise the pioneering efforts of those leading the charge in the fight for a “Swachh Bharat”, as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. ITC is the only corporate to have received the Award.
Mr Sanjiv Puri, Chief Operating Officer, ITC Limited, was presented the award by Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development, Government of India, Mr Venkaiah Naidu along with Mr Aroon Purie, Editor-in-Chief, India Today, and Ms Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Actor, at a ceremony in New Delhi on October 2, 2016.
In sanitation, in line with the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which focuses on eradication of open defecation as a national priority, ITC has built over 15,500 toilets in 2015-16. To ensure usage, ITC has launched an extensive awareness drive to bring about behavioural change and also involved the rural communities in building and maintaining the toilets. As a result, the average usage of toilets has been as high as 93% in some districts.
Receiving the award, Mr Sanjiv Puri, COO of ITC, said, “Based on the needs articulated by our stakeholders, ITC has significantly scaled up its initiatives on sanitation, school WASH as well as solid waste management. These interventions undoubtedly ensure a better quality of life for rural communities”.
The India Today Safaigiri Award winners were selected by a distinguished jury and validated by the research agency Indicus.
