Sushma Rajagopalan is ITC Infotech's s new CEO
The Economic Times - 07 Nov 2014

ITC has promoted Sushma Rajagopalan as the chief executive of its IT subsidiary ITC Infotech, making her only the second women professional in a senior leadership role in the Rs 36,000-crore tobacco-to-hospitality conglomerate. Rajagopalan, who joined ITC Infotech as its chief operating officer in August, has replaced B Sumant as the CEO of the Bangaloreheadquartered firm.

S Sivakumar, vice-chairman at ITC Infotech, said having attained a leadership position in several niche areas over the years, the company is now well poised for accelerated growth under Rajagopalan, who has over 28 years of experience in the industry.

An MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, Rajagopalan has held senior positions in several companies, including Citicorp, iGate and L&T Infotech. She joined ITC from LiquidHub, a US-based global management and IT consulting firm where she was a global partner and MD of its Indian operations. Her promotion is in line with the strategy of ITC - traditionally a male bastion partly due to social taboo attached with its tobacco business - to improve gender balance now that almost 59% of its net segment revenue is generated from businesses other than cigarettes.

Besides Rajagopalan, the only other woman executive in a top role at the Kolkata-based conglomerate is Bhavani Parameshwar, president at King Maker Marketing, a wholly owned subsidiary engaged in distribution of cigarette products in the US. ITC is now grooming several women executives for leadership roles and has also stepped up campus hiring of women executives. It recently hired Shalini Degan from Britannia as vice-president of personal care products.

ITC Infotech reported consolidated revenues of Rs 1,279 crore for the year ended March, 26% more than the previous year, while its net profit grew 29% to Rs 86 crore. It has several marquee clients and is fast expanding operations in the US and Europe.
