Here is a story on how the power of collective transformed the lives of Indian farmers in Munger, Bihar - a typical paddy & wheat growing area, where uncertain rains & the time to sow wheat after paddy made the Rabi crop unpredictable. To tackle the root cause of water availability for both Kharif & Rabi crops, farmers along with ITC, united to form water user groups to rehabilitate the village water harvesting structures.
Rain-water harvesting assured critical irrigation for both the sowing seasons. ITC also teamed up with Munger's Krishi Vigyan Kendra and started Farmer Field Schools teaching farmers how to use improved seeds, organic fertiliser and pesticides. To quickly plant wheat after paddy, mechanisation became essential and to make the use of farm machinery affordable, ITC assisted farmers to start Custom Hiring Centers. As incomes rose, the farmers further diversified into growing vegetables and fruits...
Today, across 17 states, over 2,00,000 farmers have benefited from ITC's Sustainable Agricultural Practices Initiative. Watch & share with your friends and family.
